X (Twitter) Down in India: Thousands Report Outage as Platform Faces Global Disruption

Thousands of users were suddenly cut off mid-scroll—leaving many wondering what went wrong. The popular social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a brief but widespread outage that disrupted access across India and beyond.

Massive Spike in X (Twitter) Outage Reports in India

On Thursday evening, users across India began reporting issues with accessing X. According to Downdetector, outage reports surged rapidly, reaching 1,227 complaints by 8:17 PM IST. Notably, within just minutes, that number climbed sharply to over 4,500 reports by 8:30 PM, signaling a significant disruption.

Many users found themselves unable to refresh their feeds or open shared links. Meanwhile, those using the mobile app encountered a recurring error message stating, “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.” The sudden spike in issues led to confusion, especially among users relying on the platform for real-time updates.

Global Impact: Users in the U.S. Also Affected

That said, the outage wasn’t limited to India. Reports from the United States indicated a parallel disruption, with over 14,000 users flagging issues within a 30-minute window. This suggests the problem may have stemmed from a broader, possibly global, technical glitch rather than a region-specific failure.

Data trends revealed that in India, approximately 55% of the issues were linked to the mobile application, while 37% were associated with the website. This breakdown highlights how app-based users were more heavily impacted during the outage.

Recurring Platform Issues Raise Concerns

This isn’t the first time X has faced such challenges. Earlier this year, a similar global outage affected tens of thousands of users, with over 42,000 reports logged across countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. While services were restored within an hour, the lack of immediate communication from the platform left users in the dark.

Meanwhile, the recent disruption raises questions about platform stability, especially as X continues evolving under new leadership. For businesses, creators, and everyday users, even short outages can interrupt workflows and limit access to critical updates.

Although services resumed relatively quickly this time, the absence of an official statement adds to ongoing concerns about transparency. As reliance on social media platforms like X continues to grow, users expect not just performance—but accountability as well.
